Week 6 Upset
LA Tech @ Idaho
This upset right here is “going with the heart” not the brain.
Go Vandals! My beloved Idaho Vandals are facing what appears to be a mirror image of themselves.
Both Tech & Idaho come in with a record of 1 – 4 with 1 conference loss each.
To top that off both sides have only beaten FCS squads, but at least Idaho won by 30, not in OT like Tech.
Statistically speaking, LA Tech as a team may just have the edge. Although does that really matter when you are getting belted by better teams & just beating a weaker opponent?
Now look at last week, Idaho went for the 2point conversion to win in overtime AT VIRGINIA, yes a ACC school. Coach Akkey put a lot of faith in the offence but they just came up short.
That’s why I love my Vandals for an upset. Last week LA Tech was just man handled by the boys from the islands & why can’t the Vandals do the same?
Idaho’s main problem is the struggle with the running game. If they can get Princeton McCarty or Ryan Bass running well that will take some pressure off QB Brian Reader.
Reader has started to show some improvement especially last week when he put Idaho in a position to win. If Reader plays well & either running back can go for 100 yards or so it will help Idaho’s chances of pulling off the “upset” at home.
Plus the Defence is playing great, and will look to force Tech into turnovers & bad decisions like they did to Virginia.
If they can win the turnover battle it will make it a long day for the Tech offence and Idaho will cam away with a big win at home.

Iowa @ Penn State
I like Iowa to beat Penn State as my upset, mainly because Iowa have the offense and Penn State don’t.
After the 2nd week there was a feeling of ‘here we go again’ for Iowa fans after they lost their second game against smaller brother Iowa State.
However, after a solid win over Pitt and a somewhat thumping over cellar dwellers Louisiana Munroe they are looking like being the stable Big 10 program that produces solid wins every year.
I like the link ups through QB Vandenberg and WR McNutt over the past couple of weeks and am hoping for RB Coker to have some serious time carrying the football in the second half.
Penn State has an OK defence and it is improving but I see Iowa wearing them down and over running them late in the game through occupying the ball and moving the chains.
Although Iowa’s defence is young and inexperienced it should be able to produce after a bye week filled with watching Penn State film and getting their assignments ready to face an inconsistent offense, which can’t decide which QB to go with.
Anybody who saw Penn State’s game against Indiana would have seen both QB’s struggling to find consistency, leading to poor offence and scoring.
Sure Penn State ended up beating Indiana but they will need to score a lot more than 16 to beat Iowa and frankly I do not see it.
One thing I have learnt from my time in college football is you cannot rely on your defence to win you games unless you are an SEC powerhouse with a Mans man defence e.g. LSU.
This Penn State team has more problems on offense than the health of their coach, had there not been one lucky 74 yard pass Pen State could have lost last week and Iowa may have been the favourites.
Lucky for us?
Did I mention in the past 9 games Iowa have won 8 the Iowa coaches have old man Pertno’s number on this one.
